Module activation: making functionality visible and ready

A module groups related business capabilities. Activating a module can make its workflows available in navigation, but readiness also depends on masters, permissions, configuration and valid business data. Visibility alone does not make a process operationally complete.

Manufacturing illustrates this distinction. Seeing production screens does not establish that items, bills of materials, routings, work centres and financial mappings are ready for use.

DNA's module setup

DNA's Module Installation page uses a module service with core and industry modules. In the supplied implementation, the industry-module activation state is stored locally by that service. The activation action changes this state and reloads the displayed module list.

This is evidence of the frontend activation mechanism, not evidence that a server package was installed or that the setting was deployed to every user and device.

Access remains separate

Module activation and user permission are different controls. A module can be visible while an action remains unavailable to a particular role. Conversely, a role definition is not proof that a hidden industry module has been activated in the relevant environment.

The module page checks edit permission before changing activation. The reviewed service only changes activation for industry modules; core-module behaviour follows its defined module list.

Prepare the process, not only the menu

A sensible rollout identifies the process owner, required masters, permissions, accounting relationships and review cases. For manufacturing, a coherent small scenario should connect the product definition, production plan and resulting records.
