Terminology and bilingual consistency: changing names without changing meaning
Different organisations may use different words for the same business concept. A terminology setting can make the interface more familiar, but the underlying process still needs a consistent meaning. Renaming a transaction does not turn it into a different financial event.
Bilingual terminology needs particular care. The Arabic name should explain the intended business meaning naturally, not copy English word order or create a misleading literal translation.
Terminology in DNA
DNA's terminology editor supports English and Arabic singular and plural overrides for identified entities. The save flow submits these values and applies the override returned by the service. Clearing values can restore the default naming through the returned result.
The setup also includes export and import of terminology overrides. Import uses a bulk-replacement request and reports applied and skipped results. This is a configuration operation, not an import of customers, transactions or accounting values.
Preserve the concept
Suppose Northstar prefers “Job” as its visible term for a project. The team still needs to understand how that record relates to task planning and financial responsibility. The label should improve recognition without suggesting a capability the record does not have.
Likewise, the Arabic singular and plural should remain consistent with the business use. A glossary should explain the concept and its relationship to other terms, not simply list translated words.
Review the scope of change
Terminology changes can affect navigation and labels in places that use the terminology service. They should not be assumed to rewrite historical external files or every piece of free text.
Review representative screens in both languages and keep the approved glossary understandable to new users. The goal is consistent meaning across the organisation, with names that help people recognise the work correctly.
